Nikolaj Coster-Waldau Explains The Obvious Metaphor ‘Game Of Thrones’ Explored

Game of Thrones star Nikolaj Coster-Waldau recently discussed how the show’s underlying themes reflect our current global situation. He touched on the worldwide resonance of the hit series and pointed out the irony of the story’s focus on warring factions ignoring a greater threat. Coster-Waldau believes the show’s success can be attributed to its relatable themes of family and human interaction, which resonate with viewers across the globe.

In a recent interview with Rolling Stone, the Danish actor Nikolaj Coster-Waldau, best known for his portrayal of Jaime Lannister in the HBO hit series Game of Thrones, opened up about the experience of working on the show and how it has expanded his worldview. He noted that the series’ global success still amazes him, as it is a rare feat for any television show.

Coster-Waldau commented on the show’s themes, saying:

“Of course, the irony is that the show is about all these houses and countries fighting each other and ignoring that there’s a bigger threat outside. It’s such an obvious metaphor for where we are today. It taught me that a crazy show about dragons, knights, and White Walkers can connect with people all over the world because, at its core, it’s about family and human interaction, and we all have one — hopefully not as dysfunctional as the families on Game of Thrones. [Laughs]”

It’s fascinating how a show like Game of Thrones, with its fantasy-driven narrative, can resonate so deeply with people across the globe. Coster-Waldau’s observations remind us that even amidst battles and mystical creatures, it’s the relatable human elements that truly connect us to these stories. As we continue to face global challenges, it’s important to remember the significance of unity and cooperation, as demonstrated by the metaphor within this beloved series.
