Academy Award-winning actress, director, producer, and activist Natalie Portman, launched her highly anticipated children’s book entitled ‘Natalie Portman’s Fables.’
The actress released the news about the book, including the retellings of The Tortoise and the Hare, The Three Little Pigs, and Country Mouse and City Mouse, through her verified Instagram account and wrote that she updated the classic stories to make them more reflective of the world.
Following the post she introduced her book that can be described as a “feminist baby book,” the ‘V for Vendetta’ star clarified why she had written a book for children in another Instagram post, a little after the 2020 United States presidential debate.
“I wrote this book, Natalie Portman’s Fables, because I wanted classic tales both my kids would read that would inspire empathy. Reading books as a kid, in which animals had feelings and thoughts and ideas, gave me empathy for animals because I imagined their inner lives.”
Then the mother of two continued by referring to the behaviors of the current president of the United States, and urged her 8 million followers to vote in the upcoming presidential election:
“Last night made the case for radical empathy even more urgent. The behavior we witnessed by our current president is the opposite of how I want my children to operate in the world. His refusal to denounce white supremacy was unconscionable, as was attacking someone for their child’s struggles with addiction. It painfully felt like watching someone incapable of caring for the heart of another. Now more than ever we must vote, unite, organize, and lead with empathy. Visit vote.org to ensure you are registered and take care of one another.”
