Aubrey Plaza deleted her Instagram account a week after her husband, Jeff Baena, died at the age of 47. The decision to deactivate her page came shortly after Plaza broke her silence on her husband’s death by suicide.
The Los Angeles County Coroner’s Office confirmed that Baena was found dead at a Los Angeles home on January 3. His death was ruled a suicide by hanging.
In a brief statement obtained by Daily Mail, a representative for Plaza said: “This is an unimaginable tragedy. We are deeply grateful to everyone who has offered support. Please respect our privacy during this time.” The statement arrived after Plaza was interrupted from her hosting duties at the 82nd Golden Globe Awards in Los Angeles last Sunday.
Plaza’s role as host of the program had been announced in a press release on Friday, the same day Los Angeles County Coroner’s officials confirmed Baena’s death at a residence in the Los Feliz neighborhood of Los Angeles.
Although Plaza did not attend Sunday’s Golden Globe Awards ceremony, ‘The Brutalist’ director Brady Corbet, 36, mentioned her and Baena during his acceptance speech for the Best Director award. As the cameras panned to Adrien Brody, the lead actor of ‘The Brutalist,’ trying to hold back tears.
Corbet said, “Finally, tonight my heart is with Aubrey Plaza and Jeff’s family – good night.”
Baena had been nominated for the Grand Jury Prize at the Sundance Film Festival for ‘Joshy’ in 2016 and ‘Life After Beth’ in 2014.
