‘Ahsoka’ Season 2 Prepares For The Worst After ‘The Acolyte’s Fate

The show creator is making sure his story gets a definitive conclusion in case the series is canceled.

Lucasfilm and Disney announced during last year’s ‘Star Wars’ Celebration that ‘Ahsoka’ showrunner Dave Filoni would direct his own ‘Star Wars’ movie in the coming years, reports later suggested the film could act as a finale for the franchise’s streaming era, uniting characters against Grand Admiral Thrawn.

So, ahead of the film, Filoni took action to give ‘Ahsoka’ a satisfying ending in Season 2 as a precaution against a possible cancellation, scooper Daniel Richtman recently reported. Disney’s decision to pull the plug on ‘The Acolyte’ earlier this year, is said to cause the choice.

The first season of ‘Ahsoka’ became a hit in 2023, getting 14 million views in the first five days of its release, though it received criticism for feeling incomplete. With the ongoing fan interest, the show’s return for a third season is possible but not definite.

Disney doesn’t hesitate to cancel the projects that fail to meet the viewership expectations. The studio cancelled ‘The Acolyte’ shortly after its Season 1 finale due to low ratings, leaving behind several unresolved plotlines.

‘Ahsoka’ premiered in August 2023, following Ahsoka Tano’s team up with Sabine Wren and others from ‘Star Wars Rebels’ to stop Grand Admiral Thrawn’s attempts to reunite the Empire during the rise of New Republic.

Rosario Dawson starred in the series alongside Natasha Liu Bordizzo, Mary Elizabeth Winstead, and more while Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy and ‘The Mandalorian & Grogu’ director Jon Favreau served as executive producers.
