In a new interview with ComicBook.com, Aldis Hodge expressed his openness to future opportunities within the DC Universe (DCU) and his wish to fulfill his longstanding dream of portraying Green Lantern John Stewart in a live-action adaptation.
Hodge previously lent his voice to John Stewart in the DC animated films ‘Green Lantern: Beware My Power’ and the ‘Crisis on Infinite Earths’ series. While discussing his role in the upcoming movie ‘Marmalade,’ Hodge revealed his eagerness to portray John Stewart on screen, saying:
“I mean, look, I’m open for whatever. I would love to live out the rest of the legacy of Hawkman because we had some amazing plans for him. But also with John Stewart in sort of a live-action capacity. I mean, I’ve voiced John Stewart in the animated space for years now. Few years. Phil LaMarr passed the baton. Shout out to Phil because I’m a big fan of his work. But if that became a film adaptation, absolutely. I mean, one of my dreams growing up was to be John Stewart in live-action. So yeah.”
In the same interview, the actor also touched upon his portrayal of Carter Hall / Hawkman in 2022’s ‘Black Adam’ and indicated he is willing to reprise this role despite not having been approached for future DCU projects yet.
Latest Updates About Green Lantern TV Series
Announced in early 2023, the upcoming ‘Lanterns’ TV show is set to star John Stewart alongside Hal Jordan. It also sparked speculation about potential appearances by other Green Lanterns, such as Nathan Fillion’s Guy Gardner. According to James Gunn, ‘Lanterns’ will feature a ‘True Detective’ kind of mystery.
There were earlier plans for a more ensemble-driven Green Lantern series on HBO Max, which initially included multiple Lanterns from different eras. The project has since been streamlined to concentrate on Stewart and Jordan.
As of now, details about the upcoming ‘Lanterns‘ remain scarce. Meanwhile, Hodge’s upcoming projects include ‘Marmalade,’ ‘Parallel,’ ‘The Forever House,’ ‘Cross,’ and ‘The Dutchman.’ ‘Marmelade‘ is set to premiere on February 8, 2024.
