Seven-time Screen Actors Guild Awards winner, actor Alec Baldwin claimed that Instagram management tried to punish him by accepting his verified Instagram account as “spam” following Mark Zuckerberg criticism.
On 27 October Baldwin posted the following tweet through the HABFoundation Twitter account to slam Mark Zuckerberg, the co-founder of Facebook.Inc:
“Is Mark Zuckerberg, in actually, an idiot?”
Even though the tweet received likes in a short time, according to what the actor claimed, Zuckerberg and his team took revenge by sending an email regarding his verified Instagram account:
“Interesting how literally minutes after I posted this I received an email from Instagram saying I was being reviewed as a ‘spam’ account.”
As known, for a while, Zuckerberg, who is ranked 10th on Forbes’ The World’s Most Powerful People, has been chastised for not taking a step to stop spreading hateful content over social media platforms, such as Facebook, Instagram, and so on. So much so that, with Stop Hate for Profit campaign, over 1.000 companies around the United States boycotted Facebook ad policy that is not enough to censor hate speech in the advertisement.
One of the supporters of this movement, Baldwin, implied that the social media giant still is not doing enough to protect freedom of expression and information.
Following his post, a good number of Instagram users jumped into the comment section and mentioned their negative experiences with social media channels:
“I got kicked off Facebook for 30 days. Posting a pic of Trump dancing!!!!😀” wrote, a follower.
“He is. I deleted Facebook two years ago and everyone should do the same.” added, another.
“They block me on Facebook every time I criticize him!” commented, the other.
