The wife of Hollywood actor Alec Baldwin, Hilaria Baldwin took to her Instagram the other day to answer back to the criticism regarding that she created an “insubstantial” Spanish heritage.
Last week, a journalist, Tracie Morrissey claimed on Twitter that Baldwin’s Spanish descent does not reflect the truth and said the Spanish accent of the 36-year-old is fake. After that, a great number of Twitter users began to share videos, in which Baldwin is pretending as she has a Spanish accent.
Whereupon, the mother of five, posted a 7-minute-long IG TV video of herself to clarify the issue. She said:
“I am that person that if I’ve been speaking a lot of Spanish, I tend to mix them, and if I’m speaking more English, then I mix that. (…) In this country, I would use the name Hillary, and in Spain, I would use the name Hilaria, and my family, like my parents, they call me Hilaria.”
In the caption section of the video, she repeated the things she stated during the record and wrote:
“I’ve seen chatter online questioning my identity and culture. This is something I take very seriously, and for those who are asking— I’ll reiterate my story, as I’ve done many times before.”
Then the well-known yoga instructor stated that she was born in Boston and grew up there with her family “between Massachusetts and Spain.”
“My parents and sibling live in Spain and I chose to live here, in the USA. We celebrate both cultures in our home—Alec and I are raising our children bilingual, just as I was raised. This is very important to me.”
At the end of her message, she told her fans and followers that she understands her story is a little bit different than the others, however, she is proud of her story and Spanish heritage.
Even though she said in the video that she was born in Boston, in her Creative Artists Agency speakers page biography it was written that her city of birth is the Spanish island of Mallorca. What’s more, another Twitter user uploaded a video of Baldwin, in which she says she did not move to the United States until she was 19.
Here is the video.
