In a new conversation with People, Alyson Hannigan admitted she didn’t watch the ‘How I Met Your Mother’ spinoff, ‘How I Met Your Father.’
“I should have probably watched that episode,” the actress said, referring to the episode where her husband Alexis Denisof made a cameo as Sandy Rivers from ‘How I Met Your Mother.’ “I just couldn’t. It just made me sad because I’m like, oh, that’s the same set.”
‘How I Met Your Mother’ ended in 2014. After several tries, Hulu made a spinoff called ‘How I Met Your Father’ in 2022. The show, starring Hilary Duff and others, ran for two seasons.
In ‘HIMYM,’ Hannigan played Lily Aldrin, who ends up marrying Marshall, played by Jason Segel. The CBS show, which started in 2005, is about Ted Mosby (Josh Radnor) telling his kids how he met their mother. Bob Saget narrated the series as older Ted.
In the People interview, Hannigan talked about how special it was to film the last season of ‘HIMYM.’ “I just remember being pretty emotional during it because there were a lot of ‘last,'” she said. “We all took the year to really appreciate all the moments that, we’ve had so many of, in the however many seasons we did it.”
“We used to have amazing pun runs on the show,” Hannigan also told ET about one of her favorite memories from the show. “I don’t know why. I think it started with somebody mentioning ‘Cat Fancy,’ the magazine ‘Cat Fancy.’ I think it was a guest star and I don’t know why that started a pun-off, but [there were] years of puns.”
She added, “Oh my goodness, we would laugh so hard at the puns that would happen… We got really good at punning. I remember there was a day where we did puns on U2 songs and we laughed so hard. Every time I hear a U2 song now I think of that day. It’s just so silly, but it was really funny at the time.”
Hannegan lastly played Pat in the 2023 comedy film ‘Office Race.’
