Amazon Cancels ‘Outer Range’ Despite Fan Interest

The show will not return for a third season.

Amazon Prime Video canceled the show ‘Outer Range’ after two seasons.

Variety confirmed the news on July 3. ‘Outer Range’ first aired in 2022, and the second season was released in May this year. The show starred Josh Brolin as Royal Abbott, a rancher who finds a strange dark void at the edge of his land in Wyoming. The show followed Royal and his family as they dealt with the mysterious void and other threats, especially after their granddaughter disappeared.

The cast also included Imogen Poots, Lili Taylor, Tamara Podemski, Lewis Pullman, Tom Pelphrey, Noah Reid, Shaun Sipos, Isabel Arraiza, Olive Abercrombie, and Will Patton. Charles Murray was the showrunner and one of the executive producers. Other executive producers were Josh Brolin, Brad Pitt, Dede Gardner, Jeremy Kleiner, Ernest McNealey, Tony Krantz, Heather Rae, and Jon Paré.

Popularity Wasn’t a Factor

Amazon doesn’t share viewership numbers, but ‘Outer Range’ was popular enough to make it into the Nielsen Top 10 original streaming rankings. It reached number three after its premiere. Critics also liked the show and gave it an average approval rating of 85% on Rotten Tomatoes.

‘Outer Range’ fans are disappointed with the cancellation since the show had good reviews and appeared to have a strong following. Amazon still decided not to continue with a third season, so we’re left with unanswered questions about the Abbott family’s fate.
