Amy Adams Breaks Silence On Losing Lois Lane Role To Rachel Brosnahan In James Gunn’s ‘Superman’

Amy Adams first portrayed Lois Lane in ‘Man of Steel,’ released in 2013.

In a recent interview with Variety, Amy Adams shares her thoughts on Rachel Brosnahan taking over as Lois Lane in James Gunn’s ‘Superman.’

“I love her. She’s gonna be great. Hopefully, the role will be infused with her sensibility and her natural humor and strength and wit,” the actress said. “Henry was a really brilliant Superman. I offer every Superman luck and stuff, but I think he was great. I just wanted to say that. It’s so in his spirit.”

Adams then added, “Coming from theater, a role never belongs to you. You just do a take on it. That’s how I feel about that [DCEU] franchise.”

After ‘Man of Steel,’ Adams later appeared in ‘Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice’ and ‘Justice League.’ However, her role in ‘Justice League’ changed a lot, though Zack Snyder’s cut showed the original plan for her character.

Besides Brosnahan, Phoebe Dynevor also auditioned for the role. She spoke with Variety about her audition earlier this year, saying, “It was a whirlwind, and then I realized that it was over, but it was great. She saves Superman. She’s the brains; she’s actually the fearless one.”

The casting process for ‘Superman: Legacy’ was detailed, with audition tapes and screen tests in full costumes to find the best actors. The tests took two days, and one of them involved the actors wearing the full Superman outfit.

James Gunn’s ‘Superman’ will be the first movie in the new DC Universe. It stars Corenswet as Superman and Brosnahan as Lois Lane. Other actors include Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor, Skyler Gisondo as Jimmy Olsen, Isabela Merced as Hawkgirl, Nathan Fillion as Green Lantern, Anthony Carrigan as Metamorpho, and Wendell Pierce as Perry White.

The movie is set to release on July 11, 2025.
