Andrew Garfield was originally announced to play Frankenstein’s Monster in Guillermo del Toro’s  adaptation of ‘Frankenstein,’ alongside Oscar Isaac and Mia Goth. However, earlier this year, Garfield was forced to withdraw from the project, paving the way for Jacob Elordi to join the cast.

In an interview with Deadline, Garfield shared his feelings about stepping away from the film:

“Maybe he needed it more,” Garfield said of Elordi.

He continued, “I was just with Jacob Elordi in Marrakesh, who ended up playing the character of the creature. So I was hearing about how amazing and how satisfying that was for him. So I’m very, very glad that it was him doing it. And of course, disappointed that I didn’t get to do it because I love Guillermo and I love Oscar, and everyone that he assembled. So I was disappointed. But meeting Jacob felt really, I don’t know, serendipitous so that I could really see and hear that he maybe he needed that experience more than me. So that was cool to feel that he had a really kind of spectacular time on that, on that job.”

Elordi also shared his excitement about working with del Toro and stepping into the iconic role:

“Yeah, I’m playing Frankenstein’s creature… for Guillermo, who is the God of monsters. He’s the kindest man, and he’s so sincere. He’s brilliant.”

Garfield’s departure disappointed many fans, sparking a wave of reactions online.
