Andrew Garfield Shuts The Door On ‘Spider-Man 4’ With Disappointing Statement

Andrew Garfield debunked the ‘Spider-Man 4’ rumor.

Andrew Garfield has addressed and debunked rumors that he will reprise his role as Peter Parker in the upcoming ‘Spider-Man 4.’ The actor, however, joked that audiences are unlikely to believe him.

In an interview with GQ, Garfield reflected on the speculation, saying, “I’m gonna disappoint you. Yeah, no. But I know no one’s gonna trust anything I say from now on,” referencing his repeated denials leading up to the release of ‘Spider-Man: No Way Home’ in 2021.

While denying involvement in ‘Spider-Man 4,’ Garfield seemed open to reprising his role under the right circumstances. “If it felt in line with my soul and was gonna be fun,” he said. “Maybe I’m gonna have like five kids at some point, and I’m gonna need to start saving up for the school tuition or something.”

Garfield originally portrayed Peter Parker/Spider-Man in ‘The Amazing Spider-Man’ films, a series cut short after ‘The Amazing Spider-Man 2’ received mixed critical reviews and underperformed commercially. Tom Holland subsequently took over the role in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, debuting as Spider-Man in 2016’s ‘Captain America: Civil War.’ In ‘Spider-Man: No Way Home,’ Garfield and Tobey Maguire (the original cinematic Spider-Man) reprised their iconic roles, delivering a memorable multiverse reunion.

The fourth solo ‘Spider-Man’ movie starring Tom Holland is scheduled for release in July 2026, with Destin Daniel Cretton directing. Producer Amy Pascal has revealed that ‘Spider-Man 4’ will explore the aftermath of Peter’s life-changing decision in ‘No Way Home,’ where Doctor Strange’s spell caused the world—including Peter’s closest friends—to forget who he is. Filming for ‘Spider-Man 4’ is expected to begin this summer.

Garfield has expressed willingness to portray his Spider-Man again, provided the story “feels additive to the canon of that character.”
