Have you ever felt like everyone was against you for no good reason? According to her recent Vanity Fair interview, Anne Hathaway knows exactly how that feels.
After winning an Oscar for her role in ‘Les Misérables’ and hosting the Oscars in 2013, people online started saying mean things about Hathaway. This made it hard for her to get more acting jobs. But thanks to a little help from Christopher Nolan, she didn’t let that stop her.
Hathaway told VF that Nolan was like ‘an angel’ because he didn’t care about what people were saying about her — he just knew she was a great actress:
“A lot of people wouldn’t give me roles because they were so concerned about how toxic my identity had become online. I had an angel in Christopher Nolan, who did not care about that and gave me one of the most beautiful roles I’ve had in one of the best films that I’ve been a part of. I don’t know if he knew that he was backing me at the time, but it had that effect. And my career did not lose momentum the way it could have if he hadn’t backed me.”
What Was the Reason Behind the ‘Hathahate’?
After the Oscars, some people online didn’t like Hathaway much. They made it tough for her by being really mean without any apparent reason. This made other movie makers scared to give her roles. But Christopher Nolan, who worked with Hathaway in ‘The Dark Knight Rises,’ decided to give her a chance in ‘Interstellar.’
Hathaway played a smart scientist and got to star alongside Matthew McConaughey in ‘Interstellar.’ Since then, she has been in all sorts of movies. She was the boss of a fashion website in ‘The Intern,’ a fancy thief in ‘Ocean’s 8,’ and a scam artist in ‘The Hustle.’ Just last year, she got a lot of praise for playing Rebekah Neumann in ‘WeCrashed.‘
Talking to Vanity Fair, Hathaway also shared some advice for other actors. She said being famous can be really hard, especially when people are mean. But you can’t let that scare you. You have to keep trying new things and not hide. Being an actor means sometimes you have to take risks and hope people will like what you do.
