Anthony Mackie first appeared as The Falcon in ‘Captain America: The Winter Soldier’ and reprised his role in following films. He later starred in ‘The Falcon and the Winter Soldier’ alongside Sebastian Stan.
The actor shared thoughts on his TV experience in a recent chat for Variety’s Actors on Actors:
“For me, with ‘Falcon and the Winter Soldier,’ bringing Falcon to that series, there was so much time to fill. Instead of a two-and-a-half-hour movie, you have eight hours to flesh out, and that’s what scared me, and that’s what bothered me, and that’s what I feel like can take away from the potency of the film.”
He continued:
“Luckily, it was a transition with great leadership. They utilized that show to [set Falcon up] as Captain America, so they had something to aim toward. But for the most part, it was a daunting task for me. How do you make that worth those eight hours?”
The Falcon Returns To The Big Screen
Anthony Mackie’s hero faced off an anti-patriotism group called the Flag Smashers with help from Daniel Brühl’s Zemo and Sebastian Stan’s Bucky Barnes in the series. He is now set to return as MCU’s new Captain America in 2025’s ‘Brave New World.’
Director Nate Moore wants to push Sam Wilson to his limits in the new film. He told ComicBook:
“I think he’s not Steve Rogers, and I think that’s a good thing. Because to me, this new Cap is Rocky. He’s going to be the underdog in any situation, he’s not a super soldier, he’s not a hundred years old, he doesn’t have the Avengers. What happens with this guy who announces publicly, kind of, without the support, ‘I’m new Captain America’? What happens next, I think, is fascinating because he’s a guy. He’s a guy with wings and a shield, but he is a guy.”
Giancarlo Esposito recently joined the cast, as well. He likely plays one of Mackie’s enemies. Reshoots of their scenes continue in Georgia, US, at the moment.
Filming will conclude in a couple of weeks. ‘Captain America: Brave New World’ will premiere on February 14, 2025.
