Steven Moffat returned to write the new ‘Doctor Who’ episode, ‘Boom,’ despite saying he was done with the series seven years ago. The showrunner talked about the Easter eggs in the latest story during a chat with The Hollywood Reporter:
“I think all the Easter eggs there are, I think they will get. There’s nothing I’ve buried there, it’s all the ones you’d recognize.”
Ncuti Gatwa’s Fifteenth Doctor sang a song called ‘The Skye Boat Song’ in the battlefield during the episode. Moffat said:
“Apparently, Doctor Who sang ‘The Skye Boat Song’ before as Patrick Troughton [the Second Doctor, in 1968’s ‘The Web of Fear’], but I didn’t know that… [Laughs] So that’s not me!”
2022’s ‘The Power of the Doctor’ also featured the track as The Master played it.
Old Team Is Back In New Season
Steven Moffatt took over from Russell T. Davies as the ‘Doctor Who’ lead writer and executive producer in 2008. Chris Chibnall replaced him in 2016.
Davies made a comeback to lead the writing team after Chibnall’s era received high criticism from fans. The writer recently spoke of creating new episodes for the sci-fi series by saying:
“I think, in many ways, writing doesn’t change. Writing fundamentally doesn’t change. And when I’m at my desk, I don’t think, oh, it’s a new era now I’m writing things differently. That’s… what I mean is, it’s hard every single time, every single script is new. I don’t mean I’ve got used to it and I’ve learned how to do it. I mean, the opposite. I mean, every script is a blank page. Every script is hard work.”
Ncuti Gatwa debuted as The Doctor in 2023’s ‘The Giggle.’ Millie Gibson’s Ruby Sunday joined him in the Christmas special ‘The Church on Ruby Road.’
‘Doctor Who’ will air more episodes until June 22 on Disney+.
