Well-known names go on raising their voices to stop violence in the city of Jerusalem.
On May 11, actor Alia Shawkat, best known for starring in Netflix fan-favorite sitcom ‘Arrested Development‘ as ‘Maeby Fünke‘ took to her verified Instagram account in order to show her support for Palestinians.
As known, 48 Palestinian civilians were killed and tens of people injured in attacks, which began Monday evening. To draw attention to the violence in the city, Shawkat, who has Iraq and Italian descent, went to her social media account with a selfie showing her wearing a Palestinian keffiyeh. Alongside the photo, the well-known actor wrote the following message as a caption:
“Keffiyehday in solidarity with Palestine. The Israeli government and settler organizations are collaborating to ethnically cleanse Palestinians out of the Silwan and Sheikh Jarrah neighborhoods of Jerusalem.”
The 32-year-old actor also informed her fans and followers regarding the latest acts taken to stop the attack:
“Activists are about to deliver the “Stop Jerusalem Expulsions” petition with 75K signatures to @SecBlinken, calling on him to intervene and Save Sheikh Jarrah.”
Following Shawkat’s post, numerous users of the photo-sharing platform jumped into the comments section to thank her for speaking out for Palestine.
As known, apart from ‘The Letter Room’ actor, well-known supermodels, Gigi and Bella Hadid have been trying to make themselves heard regarding what happened in the city of Jerusalem. The Palestinian-origin models have been using their social media platforms to urge people to be in solidarity with Palestine.
