Aubrey Plaza has some interesting advice for young actors: ‘Don’t ever wear underwear.’
The Parks and Recreation star, with nearly two decades of experience in the entertainment industry, shared this tip in a new interview with Entertainment Weekly. Plaza explained that going commando helps actors stay in a relaxed state on set, saying, “Be like an empty vessel. If you don’t wear underwear, it can come out faster. So don’t ever wear underwear in life.”
“Never have to pee when you’re doing a scene,” she continued. “Even if you a little bit are like, ‘Maybe I have to pee,’ just get it all out. Just get whatever fluids out.”
During the interview, Plaza sat down with her ‘My Old Ass’ co-star Maisy Stella. She appeared uncomfortable in her chair at one point, joking, “I’m on fire. Why is this happening? I don’t know if I’m having an allergic reaction or something… Maybe I should’ve worn underwear, but I never do. And then I get f*cked.”
She also said, “Always wear underwear,” but seemed to second-guess this statement as the conversation continued.
Plaza also talked about chemistry with other actors. She said it’s important to be vulnerable and open right from the start. She believes that when people trust each other, it helps create a better connection on screen. “I think when people can be vulnerable right away, I feel like that’s always a good sign,” she said. “When you’re about to do a movie or something with someone, it’s like you’re jumping off a cliff together, so I think it’s good to start it off by being like, ‘I got your back.'”
But sometimes, she admitted, chemistry isn’t obvious at first. “It’s weird, because sometimes you think you don’t have chemistry with someone,” she explained. “You’re like ‘Ugh, I don’t really like this person,’ or ‘This person’s really driving me crazy’ and then you watch the movie and you’re like ‘Well, it really looks like they’re in love with each other’ or whatever it is.”
Plaza’s new movie ‘My Old Ass’ is now playing in theaters, and she also stars in ‘Agatha All Along,’ which is streaming on Disney+. She will appear in Francis Ford Coppola’s ‘Megalopolis’ next week. It will hit theaters soon.
