‘Barbie’ Director Greta Gerwig Breaks Silence On Ken Sequel Rumors

There may be a chance to see Ryan Gosling’s Ken on screen again.

Greta Gerwig recently appeared on 60 Minutes to discuss 2023’s ‘Barbie,’ starring Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling. She answered questions about a possible sequel during the chat.

The director said she and her co-writer Noah Baumbach had a lot of ideas to write about Ken. “I mean, the truth is, you know — I guess we’ll see,” she added.

Margot Robbie wasn’t so sure about returning for a follow-up during her interview with Variety in January, though. “This wasn’t designed to be a trilogy,” she shared. “Everything went into ‘Barbie’ – and that’s how Greta works. She finishes every movie on empty, feeling like she could never make another movie because she put everything she had into that one.”

The actress was willing to work with the ‘Barbie’ team again, but noted, “I don’t know if it has to be ‘Barbie 2.’ Why can’t it be another big, original, bold idea where we get an amazing filmmaker, a big budget to play with, and the trust of a huge conglomerate behind them to go and really play? I want to do that.”

‘Barbie’ achieved remarkable success at the box office, earning over $1.4 billion worldwide and surpassing other major 2023 releases like ‘The Super Mario Bros. Movie’ and ‘Oppenheimer.’ This success made it the top-grossing film ever for Warner Bros.

Currently, Gerwig is attached to other projects. Netflix hired her to direct two adaptations of C.S. Lewis’ ‘The Chronicles of Narnia’ last year.
