‘Batman’ introduced audiences to Barry Keoghan’s ‘Joker’ in a brief cameo scene, followed by the release of a longer, deleted scene, which got viewers thinking about what’s next for the ‘Caped Crusader’ and the ‘Clown Prince of Crime’. Since then, sparked speculation about the ‘Joker’s potential return in future projects. Among the rumors was the possibility that Keoghan’s Joker could serve as the main villain in ‘The Batman III’, with a spin-off series preceding the movie to further develop the character.
With the success of ‘The Penguin’, fans are expecting more from writer/director Matt Reeves, but Keoghan recently debunked those rumors during an interview with Josh Horowitz.
When asked about the Joker, Keoghan responded, “Again, you know, it’s iconic and to the people performing it, you know, it’s just iconic performances and it’s a big one. But I am going to say that, you know, if the opportunity came about, yes I’d love to explore and, given that opportunity, really dive into it. But, I’ve not been contacted and I’ve not heard anything so I can’t, yeah.”
Keoghan also shared how much he enjoyed playing the ‘Joker’ and working with Matt Reeves and Robert Pattinson. He mentioned that he has even considered creating his own backstory for the character. During the interview, Keoghan also praised ‘The Penguin’ series.
Meanwhile James Gunn had denied reports of a TV series starring Barry Keoghan as the Joker.
In a statement on Threads, he said: “Turn on Threads and everyone is asking me about this. No, there is absolutely no truth to this. A ‘Joker’ series is not being discussed nor has it even come up at this time. Sorry.”
