Ben Affleck is rumored to reprise his role as Daredevil in ‘Avengers: Doomsday,’ where he will reportedly play a significant part. Insider LiveWarrior is said to have confirmed the speculation, further claiming that Affleck has also signed on for ‘Avengers: Secret Wars’ and extended his contract to appear in several Marvel projects following ‘Doomsday.’
Although rumors are circulating on social media, there is no official statement yet.
‘Daredevil’ is a 2003 American superhero film written and directed by Mark Steven Johnson, based on the Marvel Comics character created by Stan Lee and Bill Everett. The film stars Ben Affleck as Matt Murdock, a blind lawyer who fights for justice both in courtrooms and as the masked vigilante ‘Daredevil’ on the streets of New York. The supporting cast includes Jennifer Garner, Michael Clarke Duncan, Colin Farrell, Joe Pantoliano, Jon Favreau, and David Keith.
The film was released in the United States on February 14, 2003, by 20th Century Fox and received mixed reviews from critics.
Charlie Cox, who portrays ‘Daredevil’ in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, has commented on the 2003 movie, said “I don’t love the movie. I feel like the movie tried to do too much and it was a little tonally confused.”
She added, ”They had everyone in that movie — they had Kingpin, they had Bullseye, they had Elektra, they had Karen Page, they had Foggy,” Cox continued. “It was saturated, and it’s two hours. So that was part of that problem. And the suit sucks!”
Affleck dissed his own ‘Daredevil’ movie in 2015, telling Entertainment Weekly that the movie “didn’t work at all.” The actor added, “If I wanted to go viral I would be less polite. That was before people realized you could make these movies and make them well. There was a cynical sense of ‘Put a red leather outfit on a guy, have him run around, hunt some bad guys, and cash the check.’”
Affleck’s performance in the film received mixed reactions. While some appreciated his take on the character, others criticized it as underwhelming.
