Bill Skarsgård recently joined Josh Horowitz on his Happy Sad Confused podcast to discuss his career and upcoming projects. Naturally, the topic of superheroes came up, especially as many fans hope to see Skarsgård portray the Joker someday. The actor himself expressed interest in taking on the iconic villain.
“I think I have a really f–king cool Joker in me, probably, somewhere. I think that’d be pretty sick,” he said when asked if he would rather play the villain or Batman. Skarsgård also shared that he grew up as a comic book fan and that Batman was his favorite character.
When asked about Andy Muschietti’s involvement in the project, Skarsgård was brief, offering no concrete details. “Yeah. I don’t know exactly where he is with it, but yeah, so that was cool,” he said. Notably, the actor has also hinted that he’d be open to playing Bruce Wayne, a role that might suit him given his darker performance in ‘The Crow.’
In an interview with Esquire, Skarsgård has revealed he isn’t happy with how the movie ends. He said he would prefer a more definite conclusion rather than an ending that suggests a sequel: “I personally preferred something more definitive.”
Meanwhile, Skarsgård has faced criticism from fans on social media, although the specific reasons remain unclear.
Skarsgård also mentioned that Heath Ledger’s portrayal of the Joker in Christopher Nolan’s ‘The Dark Knight’ serves as a significant inspiration for him. “I was like 17 or whatever, and that Heath performance… and then he passed away,” he recalled. “I was an aspiring actor, and to me, he represented everything that I wanted to be. His passing and that performance hit me hard at that time.” Ledger’s version of the Joker remains widely regarded as one of the best portrayals of the character, despite initial backlash.
