‘Black Adam’ Actor Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson Teases Mysterious New Project With J.J. Abrams And Zak Penn

The trio is likely teaming up for a non-Marvel/DC project.

Following the failure of ‘Black Adam’ and recent media attention surrounding his alleged habit of peeing in water bottles on set, Dwayne Johnson announced a collaboration with director J.J. Abrams (‘Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker’) and writer Zak Penn (‘The Incredible Hulk’).

“Years in the making—we finally broke bread, we drank, we laughed, got a lil’ drunk, (maybe that was just me), we talked life stuff, love stuff, dude stuff, and took our time chopping up our passion for movies and storytelling,” Johnson wrote on X. “Then we all raised a glass and toasted to…yup, this one is gonna be fun.”

The actor mentioned that the title came ‘from the mind of Zak Penn,’ who worked on ‘Elektra,’ ‘X-Men: The Last Stand,’ ‘Free Guy,’ and ‘Ready Player One.’

The partnership between Johnson, Abrams, and Penn followed after all three experienced setbacks in their superhero projects over the last decade.

While The Rock’s DC movie underperformed at the 2022 box office, Abrams’ plans for a ‘Justice League Dark’ project at Warner Bros. got scrapped. Penn previously lost ‘The Avengers’ gig to Joss Whedon, who claimed the former writer’s work had to be redone because of its low quality.

So, fans believe that this new collaboration could be another superhero film that will make up for past failure, but it’s unclear what the project will actually be.
