Blake Lively wants James Gunn to choose Brandon Sklenar for the Batman role.
There’s been a growing fan campaign for Sklenar to play Batman in DCU’s ‘The Brave and the Bold.’ Sklenar has shown interest online, and now Lively has tagged DC Studios co-CEO James Gunn on Instagram.
“So happy for you my friend. They’re lucky to have you. Also, I’m seeing this Batman chatter. I volunteer yourself as tribute. James Gunn knows how to give the people what they need. And this, they need,” Lively wrote with bat and black heart emojis.
Sklenar responded to the actress with red heart, bat, and smiling face emojis. Fan campaigns have worked before—some believe Aaron Pierre got cast as John Stewart in ‘Lanterns’ because fans suggested him so often.
There are rumors DC wants a middle-aged actor for Bruce Wayne, so at 34, Sklenar might be a bit young. Even if this gains him some attention, it’s likely too early for anyone to be seriously considered for Batman.
Sklenar’s other roles include ‘It Ends With Us,’ ‘Emily the Criminal,’ ‘The Big Ugly,’ ‘Midway,’ and ‘Yellowstone’s spin-off, ‘1923.’ ‘The Flash’ director Andy Muschietti is still set to direct the movie.
“This is the introduction of the DCU’s Batman,” Gunn spoke about the movie when the ‘Gods and Monsters’ slate was announced. “This is the story of Damian Wayne, who is Batman’s actual son who we didn’t know existed for the first eight to 10 years of his life.”
The director continued, “He was raised as a little murderer and assassin. He’s a little son of a b*tch. He’s my favorite Robin. It’s based on the Grant Morrison comic book’s run, which is one of my favorite Batman runs, and we are putting that all together right now.”
Peter Safran also shared, “And this is obviously a feature film, and it’s going to feature other members of the extended ‘Bat-family’, just because we feel like they’ve been left out of the Batman stories in the theater for far too long.”
Other names like Jake Gyllenhaal, Jensen Ackles, Alan Ritchson, and recently Glen Powell have also been suggested by fans for the Batman role.
