Bridgerton’s Nicola Coughlan Admits The Saucy Scenes Are ‘Not How Her Parents Vibe’

Netflix plans to release the show’s third season in two parts later this year.

Nicola Coughlan discussed the upcoming season of ‘Bridgerton’ in a recent chat on SiriusXM Hits 1. The actress revealed that she asked for an alternate cut of the Netflix original’s episodes to share with her parents because of the nude scenes. She said:

“It’s literally written into my contract. People think I’m saying it as a joke. I just don’t want to… We grew up Irish Catholic. That’s just not how we vibe.”

Her Mother Was ‘Shocked’

Coughlan also recalled her mother’s first reaction to the nudity in Season 1:

“When she first saw ‘Bridgerton,’ she didn’t know it was going to be saucy. And then you get a bottom — Jonathan Bailey’s lovely bottom — about two minutes into the first episode ever. And she was like, ‘What is this?’ But then now she thinks it’s fantastic and really funny.”

The 37-year-old actress portrays Penelope Featherington in ‘Bridgerton.’ According to her, Penelope’s third season in the period drama includes ‘spicy’ scenes.

The Actress Delves Into Season 3

New ‘Bridgerton’ episodes will focus on Penelope’s growing romantic relationship with Luke Newton’s Colin Bridgerton. Coughlan had a hard time while filming the kissing scenes between her and her partner. She told Entertainment Tonight last year:

“[It was] terrifying. Luke and I read the books at the beginning of season 1, and it was funny to us. We were like, ‘Imagine if we have to kiss and do this.’ And then season 3 came on and we were like, ‘Oh god,’ and then it’s like, it’s my friend. I have to kiss my friend.”

The actress added:

“And you can’t pretend to kiss someone; you have to really kiss them. It’s a spicy one. It’s a lot of the stuff from the books that the fans expect has made it into the show.”

Netflix will release the first part of Season 3 on May 16. The second part will follow on June 13.
