Brie Larson, best known her portrayal of ‘Captain Marvel’ in Marvel Universe superhero films, spoke to W magazine in order to promote her partnership with Japan’s beauty brand Decorté and referred to the strict beauty standards in the film industry.
In the interview, after talking about the beauty products, the Academy Award-winning actor surprisingly said that she experienced the negative impacts of these beauty standards on her personal life. She first expressed that she does not believe that there is a beauty standard then added:
“I struggled with feeling ugly and like an outcast for so much of my life. And so I really, really feel for that.”
Then the ‘Room‘ star revealed that it took her a long time to be able to accept herself and feel comfortable in her own body. Now, she knows that she “can be whoever” she wants to be with herself. However, many people around the world still do not feel that they have safety within their own bodies; according to what she said, that breaks her hearts.
Larson, who was named one of the 100 most influential people in the world in 2019, also declared her ultimate goal in life: She wants to do whatever she can to make people have the freedom to express themselves and make them know they can change in case they want it.
