Charlie Cox spoke about ‘Daredevil: Born Again’ with co-star Wilson Bethel at FAN EXPO San Francisco 2024. Cox confirmed that Marvel will begin work on Season 2 of ‘Daredevil.’
Coming ten years after Cox first appeared as the Devil of Hell’s Kitchen in Netflix’s ‘Daredevil,’ the new series marks the first time the character has starred in a series since the original was canceled after three seasons in 2018.
“When the show was canceled, I suddenly had a breaking up period, a mourning period,” he said. “We thought we were going to do a season 4, and then that didn’t happen. Kind of overnight we got a phone call, it was like, ‘We’re done. It’s finished.’ It felt like a breakup a little bit in kind of a weird way.”
Cox continued, “And then, like all breakups, obviously we got back together.” The star added,“But now I’m aware that there will presumably come a time where it really does stop happening. The longer it goes on, the harder it will be to let go.”
The actor expressed that he doesn’t want to leave the character and hinted that he could play Matt Murdock for years. “But when we were in New York ComicCon I was chatting to a couple of ‘Daredevil’ writers, the ‘Daredevil’ comic team. They’re getting ready to release a comic that takes place where Matt Murdock is in his 60s, so I was like, ‘Oh, okay, great, so we got some time.'”
‘Daredevil’ was Marvel’s first original series on Netflix and was part of a deal between the streamer and Disney in 2013 to bring street-level heroes Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, and Iron Fist to the small screen, culminating in the miniseries ‘The Defenders.’ ‘Daredevil,’ its spinoff ‘The Punisher,’ and ‘Jessica Jones’ and ‘Luke Cage’ aired multiple seasons on Netflix before they were all canceled in late 2018 and early 2019, months before Disney launched its own streaming service in November.
Marvel’s ‘Daredevil: Born Again’ will premiere on Disney+ on March 4.
