Charlie Hunnam Becomes ‘Ed Gein’ For ‘Monster’ Season 3

‘Sons of Anarchy’ star will play Ed Gein in Ryan Murphy’s ‘Monster’ series.

Charlie Hunnam will star as Ed Gein in the third season of Ryan Murphy’s Monster series.

According to Entertainment Weekly, the announcement was made by Murphy at the premiere of ‘Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story’ on September 17. Filming for the new season, which will focus on Gein, is set to begin next month.

The ‘Monster ‘series began with ‘Dahmer — Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story.’ It was released in September 2022 and was a hit on Netflix.

Ed Gein, aka the ‘Butcher of Plainfield,’ was convicted of one murder in the 1950s. Many believe he was involved in more. He became infamous for collecting body parts, and his gruesome actions inspired Norman Bates from ‘Psycho’ and Buffalo Bill from ‘The Silence of the Lambs.’ Gein spent the last years of his life in a mental institution and passed away in 1984.

The current season of ‘Monster’ is about Lyle and Erik Menendez, who were convicted of killing their parents in 1989. The show stars Nicholas Chavez as Lyle, Cooper Koch as Erik, Javier Bardem as their father José, and Chloë Sevigny as their mother Mary Louise ‘Kitty.’ The episodes will start streaming on Netflix on September 19.

Hunnam is best known for playing Jax Teller on ‘Sons of Anarchy.’ He recently appeared in Zack Snyder’s ‘Rebel Moon – Part One: A Child of Fire.’

Ryan Murphy also continues to work with FX. His horror-drama series ‘Grotesquerie’ will premiere on September 25. It stars Niecy Nash, Lesley Manville, and Travis Kelce, and will be available to stream on Hulu the following day.
