Chris Hemsworth Loves Playing The Villain In ‘Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga’ After Thor

The actor stars as Warlord Dementus in the upcoming ‘Mad Max’ prequel.

Chris Hemsworth recently spoke of shifting from playing the hero in Marvel’s ‘Thor’ franchise to being the bad guy in ‘Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga.’ He described the new role as ‘a real departure’ from Thor in an Entertainment Weekly chat and said:

“I was about to say it was nice not to wear a cape, but… I did have a cape in this film. And it’s red — or it becomes red eventually, as well. The absurdity of that.”

The actor’s words went on:

“It’s not intentional to be a comparison of Thor, but I found a wonderful departure to it — to play the villain, transform, and inhabit a completely different physicality was a lot of fun. I loved it. And it was the real attraction.”

The Actor Thinks The Villain Is ‘Pretty Horrible’

Hemsworth previously shared with Empire Online that he especially enjoyed doing the stunt scenes for Dementus. The actor also delved into the Warlord’s motivations and relationship with Anya Taylor-Joy’s Furiosa. He explained:

“He’s a pretty horrible individual. Through the whole film we kept coming back to, ‘This is evil, but what is the intention behind it?’ It’s not just sadistic insanity. There is a real purpose, the wheels are turning, he’s plotting and planning and ten steps ahead of everyone else.”

The Marvel actor noted Dementus’ father-like connection with the ‘Fury Road’ rebel:

“I think that’s how he sees himself. I think there’s a paternal quality and nature to the relationship in his eyes. [Furiosa] would, I’m sure, argue to her death the complete opposite.”

Furiosa’s backstory will premiere at the 77th Cannes Film Festival on May 15.
