According to Deadline, Paul King has been tapped to direct a live-action ’Prince Charming’ movie for Disney. While details on whether the film is a prequel or sequel are still unknown, the outlet confirmed that Chris Hemsworth is in talks to take on the lead role.
Plot details are being kept under wraps for now, but it’s known that King will co-write the movie with Simon Farnaby and Jon Croker. King and Farnaby last teamed up for 2023’s ’Wonka’ and the upcoming ’Paddington in Peru.’
Prince Charming appeared as Cinderella’s love interest in 1950 animated classic ’Cinderella.’ In the original film, his character didn’t have much depth compared to other Disney princes. Richard Madden played a more fleshed-out version in 2015’s live-action remake.
Hemsworth’s casting in the role followed his highly-praised performances in ’Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga’ and ’Transformers One’ this year. He is currently expected to return as Thor as well, though no official talks took place yet.
The actor told ComicBook last summer, “I have loved every second working in the Marvel Universe and if there’s more to come then I’m excited about it. Nothing official yet. I’m sort of waiting for the phone call and waiting for the news to see, let’s see what happens. But, you know, I love it.”
Thor last showed up in Taika Waititi’s ’Love and Thunder.’ The movie received criticism for its humorous and light-hearted tone.
