Ever since Daniel Craig announced that 2019’s ‘No Time To Die’ would be his last outing as Bond, fans and the media have been buzzing with speculation about who will next step into the role.
Clay Bunker, who worked with Cillian Murphy on the set of Christopher Nolan’s latest film ‘Oppenheimer,’ believes Murphy could be the right fit for the part. Bunker shared his thoughts with The Sun, saying:
“He would fare beautifully. It’s funny because Cillian is the nicest human but he has that dark side and there’s a darkness to Bond. We forget that sometimes Bond is like the character Fleming created – a pretty dark character. He just happens to be on the side that we call good. Cillian has that ability to tap into that.”
As for the Bond franchise itself, there’s a period of reflection and planning underway. Greg Wilson, one of the Bond producers, mentioned last November that while there’s a future for the spy, a new film isn’t currently being developed.
Finding The New 007 Will Take Some Time
Amid the rumors about who might play the next Bond, producer Barbara Broccoli has spoken about the need for a fresh direction following the conclusive ending of ‘No Time To Die.’ Broccoli told Variety:
“It’s gonna take a while for us to get — you know, it’s a whole new reinvention. So it’ll take some time.”
Reflecting on Craig’s contribution, she also mentioned to The Guardian:
“Daniel [Craig] gave us the ability to mine the emotional life of the character… I think these movies reflect the time they are in. There’s a big, big road ahead reinventing it for the next chapter and we haven’t even begun with that.”
Meanwhile, a survey by William Hill Vegas revealed the UK public’s favorites for the role include Idris Elba, closely followed by Tom Hardy and Henry Cavill.
