Cobie Smulders On Alyson Hannigan’s HIMYM Spin-Off: ‘Count Me In!’

Smulders says always, anytime for a possible spin-off.

In an exclusive conversation with Tania Hussain of Collider, Cobie Smulders hinted that she would be open to revisiting the beloved How I Met Your Mother universe. Smulders shared her thoughts on Alyson Hannigan’s recent idea for a HIMYM spinoff.

Recently, Hannigan, who played Lily Aldrin in the series, suggested retelling the story of how Ted Mosby (played by Josh Radnor) met the mother of his children in a Rashomon-style narrative. Smulders did not hold back her enthusiasm about returning. She said:

“Always, always. I was lucky enough to do an episode of How I Met Your Father. So, it’s like… did we do it? I love those people, so I would love to be on the same set with any of them. But as of now, there’s nothing. At least nothing I’m involved in!”

Hannigan’s spinoff idea reimagines the story being told from the perspective of her on-screen husband, Marshall Eriksen. Speaking to PEOPLE, Hannigan envisioned a different kind of show where Marshall narrates the story of how Ted Mosby met the mysterious “mother” instead of Ted himself.

The nine-season series How I Met Your Mother, which aired from 2005 to 2014, followed Ted’s journey to meeting the mother of his children, told through flashbacks narrated by Bob Saget.
