Netflix recently shared the first trailer for the 15-episode ‘Cobra Kai’ Season 6. The official synopsis read:
“Picking up with Cobra Kai eliminated from the Valley, our senseis and students must decide if and how they will compete in the ‘Sekai Taikai’ — the world championships of karate.”
This season will offer five more episodes than the previous ones. It’s not clear how Netflix will divide them into three dates.
The Show’s Place In The Miyagi-Verse
‘Cobra Kai’ debuted on YouTube Red in 2018 but moved to Netflix after the second season. The ‘Karate Kid’ sequel show followed William Zabka’s Johnny Lawrence as he reopened the karate dojo and rekindled an old rivalry with Ralph Macchio’s Daniel LaRusso.
The series revisited all the ‘Karate Kid’ films throughout its six seasons except for 1994’s ‘The Next Karate Kid.’
Any Guest Appearances From Older Characters?
Fans were expecting to see Hilary Swank return as Julie Pierce in the final season, but the actress shared doubts about her involvement last February. She told Collider:
“I don’t think I am, unfortunately. I know. It’s, like, the number one question I get right now. Most people usually say, ‘What’s it like working with Clint Eastwood?’ But I think, ‘Are you going to be on ‘Cobra Kai?’’ has almost surpassed that.”
Another ‘Karate Kid’ Film In The Works
Meanwhile, a new ‘Karate Kid’ movie started production in April 2024. The film listed Macchio and Jackie Chan back in their roles as Daniel LaRusso and Mr. Han despite being unrelated to the ‘Cobra Kai’ universe.
Ben Wang landed the lead role in the upcoming Jonathan Entwistle film. The plot synopsis implied that Macchio and Chan would train the Chinese fighter.
The studio recently moved the release date from December 13, 2024, to May 30, 2025.
