At the Palm Springs International Film Festival Awards Gala, Colman Domingo talked with ET’s Denny Directo about possibly replacing Jonathan Majors in the upcoming Marvel projects.
Speculation began when writer Daniel Richtman mentioned that Marvel Studios and Disney might be considering Domingo for the role of Kang the Conqueror after firing Majors last month. But the ‘Rustin’ star revealed that he hasn’t received any offers yet:
“I don’t know, I’m always looking at what I have to do right now… I know there’s talk and conversations around, and I don’t know how much is true. I don’t even get that from my team; I can’t tell if it’s true or not.”
The Source Of Ongoing Rumors
Domingo gathered attention last year with his roles in Netflix’s ‘Rustin’ and Blitz Bazawule’s ‘The Color Purple.’ The 54-year-old actor previously showed interest in Marvel’s comic book projects, and Richtman claimed he had a high chance of being in a few in the future.
“Still early days, but I hear Colman Domingo is one option that was brought up to replace Jonathan Majors as Kang.”
What Happened To Kang The Conqueror?
Marvel Studios decided to part ways with Jonathan Majors following his conviction on charges of assault and harassment in December. The jury reached this decision after about five hours of discussion over three days.
Following the trial, Disney and Marvel announced they wouldn’t continue with projects in which Majors was set to star as Kang the Conqueror. This included films like ‘Avengers: The Kang Dynasty’ and ‘Avengers: Secret Wars.’
These projects were still in the early planning stages, without production dates or schedules. Marvel has not yet made any public announcements about who might replace Majors or if there will be changes to the storylines of these upcoming films.
