Common Reveals The Warning He Received Before Joining ‘Silo’ Cast

The rapper/actor, who played Robert Sims, was advised to avoid the source material the show was based on.

‘Silo’ premiered on Apple TV+ last year and adapted a three-novel series by Hugh Howey while also making changes to the story and characters through Graham Yost’s writing.

Common pointed at the differences between the show and the source material while explaining why he was warned against reading the books before production.

“Our series is based on the books and they follow a lot of what goes on, but some things veer off, because Simms has a very small part in the books,” the actor recently shared with ComicBook.

“Obviously, what we’ve done on the show, Simms is there and he has a wife. I started reading the books and then I was advised to set them down to stay in focus to the show and then read the books once we’re done. It worked out for me, because I didn’t want to get caught up in thinking all of these things are going to happen and that’s where we may not be going with the show. But I love what Hugh did with the books.”

‘Silo’ follows the last ten thousand people on Earth living in a big underground silo, designed to protect them from a deadly atmosphere outside. The story takes a new direction as Rebecca Ferguson’s Juliette starts searching for truth after a loved one’s murder.

The cast returning for the second season features Harriet Walter, Chinaza Uche, Avi Nash, Alexandria Riley, Shane McCrae, Remmie Milner, Clare Perkins, Billy Postlethwaite, Rick Gomez, Caitlin Zoz, Tanya Moodie, and Iain Glen.

‘Silo’ Season 2 is set to premiere on November 15 on Apple TV+.
