In a series of posts on the social media platform X, former Arrowverse executive producer Marc Guggenheim recently hinted at a potential revival of Brandon Routh’s Superman.
Guggenheim revealed conversations with Routh about a sequel series to ‘Superman Returns,’ expressing enthusiasm for the project:
“Brandon and I have talked about a sequel series. We have some really exciting ideas…”
This brings hope for fans of Routh’s initial appearance as the Man of Steel in the 2006 film, ‘Superman Returns,’ and his return during the Arrowverse’s ‘Crisis on Infinite Earths’ crossover event.

2025’s Superman Will Be Portrayed By David Corenswet
‘Superman Returns’ saw Routh stepping into the role famously originated by Christopher Reeve. Despite a global box office haul of over $391 million, the film was viewed as a letdown. As a result, plans for future sequels with Routh were shelved, and the franchise underwent a reboot with Henry Cavill taking on the role in 2013’s ‘Man of Steel.’
In the years following, Cavill’s tenure as Superman concluded with his final appearance in ‘Black Adam.’ The mantle of Superman is set to be passed to David Corenswet, who will portray the next live-action iteration of Clark Kent in the 2025 film ‘Superman: Legacy.’ Meanwhile, James Gunn also teased an unaffiliated Superman film by J. J. Abrams.
‘Superman Returns’ remains available for streaming on Prime Video and Max, and Routh’s career continues with new projects, including roles in ‘Out of Order!,’ ‘The Redeemer,’ and ‘Magic: The Gathering.’ Meanwhile, ‘Superman: Legacy‘ is expected to hit the theaters on July 11, 2025.
