‘Constantine’ Sequel Receives Promising Update From Producer

The sequel is in progress, with Keanu Reeves set to return.

‘Constantine’ producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura shared some promising news about the long-awaited sequel at San Diego Comic-Con.

Di Bonaventura assured fans that the movie is still happening and progressing well. He revealed that the script is currently being written and is ‘not that far away’ from completion:

“The script is being written right now, and it’s not that far away. I mean, we’ve got to get a good script, but we’re starting great because the movie star that everybody wants to be in business with wants to be this character again. So there’s a lot of room in that franchise to do the kind of soul-searching, crazy, quasi-religious that made the first movie so satisfying. And it doesn’t surprise me at all why Keanu wants to do that.”

Keanu Reeves is confirmed to return as the main character. Di Bonaventura says having Reeves onboard is a big positive for the movie, but no other original cast members are confirmed yet. The final script is not ready, so casting details are still up in the air.

Reeves’ Return Was Announced Two Years Ago

It was announced in 2022 that Keanu Reeves would return as the lead character, and Francis Lawrence would direct again. Warner Bros. and DC went through major changes, and this left ‘Constantine 2’ in limbo.

Tilda Swinton, who played Gabriel in the first movie, said earlier this year that she didn’t hear anything specific about her role in the sequel:

“I’m sorry to have to tell you that I know nothing about this sequel except that I’ve heard it’s happening. Unless they’re very late in calling me, I don’t think Gabriel will be flapping his/her wings. I did hear a rumor, I don’t know if you heard it, that Keanu was going to play Gabriel. Which would be beautiful.”

‘Constantine 2’ will have themes similar to the first movie like soul-searching and quasi-religious elements.
