‘Wicked’s Cynthia Erivo recently revealed her interest in playing Storm in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but fans aren’t sure she’s the right fit.

During an interview with NBRFilm, Erivo expressed her excitement about bringing the popular ‘X-Men’ character to life. She described Storm as a character with untapped depth, adding, “We haven’t uncovered how grand she is and all of that inner turmoil she has.”

Storm hasn’t made her official debut in the MCU yet, but Cynthia Erivo’s recent comments caused a backlash online.

Fans posted harsh comments criticizing Erivo as a potential choice for Storm. One commenter wrote, ‘Hopefully they’ve learned their lesson and know better than doing this.’ Another said, ‘She has a better shot at playing Nosferatu in the woke Netflix remake.’ Other comments mocked her appearance, with one suggesting she could play other roles like Professor X or Moondragon instead of Storm. Some fans also described her as ‘weird’ and said they wouldn’t watch a movie with her in it.

Storm is introduced in 1975, and she has the power to control the weather. She is also one of the first Black superheroes in mainstream comics. Her story includes her African origins, time as a goddess in Kenya, and her struggles with leadership and self-identity. She appeared in earlier ‘X-Men’ films, but some fans feel her character’s complexity hasn’t been fully shown.

Halle Berry played Storm in the original ‘X-Men’ trilogy, but many critics said the character didn’t get enough screen time to develop her story. Alexandra Shipp later took on the role in ‘X-Men: Apocalypse’ and ‘Dark Phoenix,’ but fans still felt the films missed the mark.
