Daisy Ridley Reveals Why Her Star Wars Return Is Different This Time

She took her time deciding but ultimately felt it was the right choice.

Daisy Ridley is coming back to her role for a new Star Wars movie, and she’s telling us why this time feels different for her.

Daisy recently told Empire Online that she’s grown up since she first played Rey Skywalker, and she’s learned a lot from other acting jobs too. It seems this makes her return a fun challenge now:

“Coming in a bit more eyes wide open, I suppose I feel more like I’m owning it. I suppose I owned it the first time. Basically, I’m an adult now. I certainly did not feel like an adult at the time. Obviously, personally, things have changed, and professionally, I’ve had lots of other experiences, so I definitely feel like it’s a different thing this time. There’s just a lot of joy with me and these films. Honestly, if I wasn’t excited, I wouldn’t have done it. It feels like a great thing to be part of.”

She Didn’t Say Yes To The Offer At First

Ridley admitted that she didn’t jump at the offer at first. She then remembered a funny moment when she was on her way to meet Kennedy:

“It wasn’t a difficult decision. I didn’t say yes right away, Kathy [Kennedy, Lucasfilm president] was like, ‘Take as long as you need.’ It was actually really funny, on the way there [to meet Kennedy], I was on the phone with my best friend and he goes, ‘Oh my God, Dais, imagine if they’re doing a Rey TV show.’ And I was like, ‘Nah, we’re literally just going for breakfast.’ And then I called him and I was like, ‘You will never guess what.'”

Ridley said she had no reason to refuse the offer, though:

“Why wouldn’t I [do it]? Yes, they have been divisive, but also they bring a lot of love and joy to a lot of people. It feels pretty amazing to be able to continue a character — like, can I even remember how to play her? It’s an interesting challenge as an actor to come back to something and try to figure out what’s changed for me and what’s changed for her.”

Star Wars Universe Continues To Expand

‘New Jedi Order’ is being directed by ‘Ms. Marvel’ director Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy. It’s about Rey trying to build up the Jedi Order again after ‘The Rise of Skywalker.’

We don’t know if John Boyega and other co-stars will join her in this movie. There are talks about adding new characters like a main villain and two young trainees for Rey.

Lucasfilm announced several other ‘Star Wars’ projects. There’s a film about the early days of Jedi coming from director James Mangold and another one that continues the story from ‘The Mandalorian.’ ‘Tales of the Empire‘ will also start streaming on Star Wars Day, and the first live-action show from the High Republic era, ‘The Acolyte,‘ will be out in June.

‘Star Wars: New Jedi Order’ is set to hit theaters in 2026.
