Daisy Ridley revealed that the upcoming Star Wars movie focusing on Rey Skywalker wouldn’t be happening if she hadn’t agreed to return.
Ridley explained that they wanted her to return based on just an idea for the movie. “They simply asked if I wanted to do it, based on an idea, without the script being written yet,” she said. “But if I hadn’t been convinced by the concept, the movie wouldn’t have been made. I took a day to think about it and I told myself that I had had great times making those films.”
The new Star Wars film will be set 15 years after ‘The Rise of Skywalker.’ Rey is now a Jedi Master trying to rebuild the Jedi Order while facing dark forces. Details on these enemies remain unclear, but Ridley feels confident in the direction of the story. “This new adventure seemed fun to me, so why say no? My thoughts on the subject are quite simple: if I didn’t think the story was worth telling, I wouldn’t have come back.”
The movie is expected to be like an epilogue to the sequel trilogy and is directed by ‘Ms. Marvel’s Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy. Filming has been delayed, and reports now suggest that production won’t begin until next year. This pushes the release date to 2027. The delay is believed to be due to ongoing work to get the project where it needs to be.
‘The Mandalorian’ is also returning in 2026. There are also reports that Taika Waititi’s Star Wars project is on hold after the mixed response to his ‘Thor: Love and Thunder.’
