Daniel Radcliffe says young fans are often disappointed when they meet him today.
Radcliffe recently joined ‘Late Night With Seth Meyers’ and revealed that he isn’t always the favorite when kids meet him in person. Why? Because he doesn’t look much like the young wizard from the movies. Radcliffe joked that especially the children often find him too old:
“If they’re very young kids, they’ve probably only seen maybe the first one or two films. And so then they have a parent who’s my age, who’s like, ‘It’s Harry Potter,’ and the kid’s like, ‘It is not. [Laughter] This man is old.’ I think I probably have that effect on a lot of kids.”
The actor also said he feels thankful that fans who loved him as Harry Potter are interested in his other work. He noted that fans came to see him in other shows. And he’s glad they did.
Radcliffe Says He Wasn’t That Good in Harry Potter
Radcliffe also revealed how he thinks of his performances in the Harry Potter films. Meyer told him he was very good in the movies, but Radcliffe’s response was this:
“That’s not true. [Laughter] But thank you. I disagree with you about many of my performances in many of the films, but I thank you for that. That’s very kind.”
He again said in 2014 that he doesn’t think he was very good in several of the movies — especially in one of them:
“It’s hard to watch a film like ‘Harry Potter And The Half-Blood Prince,’ because I’m just not very good in it. I hate it. My acting is very one note and I can see I got complacent and what I was trying to do just didn’t come across. It’s more important for me to be self-critical. Because I’ve grown up in an atmosphere where everyone is always wanting to be nice to me.”
He Also Solved The Sorting Hat Mystery
Radcliffe also solved a mystery about the famous Sorting Hat scene from ‘Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone.’ Seth Meyers shared a question from his son with him. He said his son was puzzled about why students already wore their house cloaks before being sorted by the Sorting Hat. Radcliffe explained:
“I think if I remember, and it was a while ago, I think we are in sort of neutral cloaks when we first come in. And then, you know, magic.”
