Daniel Radcliffe Thought Alan Rickman Hated Him During Harry Potter: ‘I Was Terrified’

Radcliffe was intimidated by the late actor partly because of his voice.

Daniel Radcliffe recently explained on the ‘Happy Sad Confused’ podcast that Alan Rickman was just as intimidating in real life as he was in the ‘Harry Potter’ franchise. The actor was scared of his co-star in the first few films:

“I was so intimidated by Alan Rickman. How can you not be by that voice. Even hearing that voice you forget quite how low it was until it echoes through you. I was so intimidated by him for the first three movies. I was terrified by him and was like, ‘This guy hates me.’”

Snape And Potter Had A Good Off-Screen Relationship

Josh Horowitz also showed Daniel Radcliffe a 2015 interview with Alan Rickman. Rickman mentioned his ‘huge pride’ seeing the ‘Harry Potter’ star’s performance in Broadway’s ‘How To Succeed In Business Without Really Trying’ during his chat.

The footage led Radcliffe to explain how the late actor was supportive of his career after the franchise:

“He saw every piece of stage work I did when he was alive. He would take me out afterwards and we would talk about it. He was one of the first people to say like, ‘You should look at voice coaching and investigate all this stuff.’ I am so lucky. To hear him say that is really lovely. Thank you for showing me that.”

Daniel Radcliffe Is On Bad Terms With Someone Else

Radcliffe’s relationship with someone else on set didn’t go as well as his friendship with Alan Rickman. He fell off with J.K. Rowling after the author’s anti-trans comments made the headlines a few years ago.

The ‘Harry Potter’ star and Emma Watson argued against Rowling on the matter. So, the writer recently wrote on X that she wouldn’t forgive the two even if they apologized:

“Not safe, I’m afraid. Celebs who cosied up to a movement intent on eroding women’s hard-won rights and who used their platforms to cheer on the transitioning of minors can save their apologies for traumatised detransitioners and vulnerable women reliant on single sex spaces.”

Rupert Grint, Bonnie Wright, Evanna Lynch, and Eddie Redmayne also opposed the author’s views.
