In a recent interview with Screen Rant, Dave Bautista talked about his interest in joining James Gunn’s DC Universe. He used to want to play the Batman villain, Bane, but now he feels he’s too old for that role and believes he wouldn’t do it justice. Still, he has another option in his mind:
“And then I saw somewhere online that someone posted something of me playing Lex Luthor; an older Lex Luthor. I kind of became obsessed with that idea. Obviously, they moved on from that idea, so at this point, I’m struggling to find my place in the DC universe. But I’d really be up for anything.”
With the old DCEU ending, a new DC Universe is starting with James Gunn and Peter Safran in charge. Gunn is bringing in new actors and some he worked with on Marvel’s ‘Guardians of the Galaxy.’
Nicholas Hoult will play Lex Luthor in Gunn’s ‘Superman’ movie, but there are many other roles Bautista could play in DC Studios’ projects. Bautista, who worked with Gunn on ‘Guardians of the Galaxy,’ is excited about the chance to work with him again and wants a major role in the new DC Universe. He prefers to have a significant part in the film rather than just a cameo or minor role.
Bautista Wants To Work With Gunn
When ComicBook.com previously talked to Dave, he said he hadn’t discussed joining the DCU with Gunn yet, but his good relationship with Gunn keeps the possibility open. The actor noted:
“I would love to work with James again, whether it’s DC Universe or not. I just love James Gunn. He’s an incredible director and we have a camaraderie that’s priceless. So to work with him again ? I mean I’d do it for free. But, we just haven’t had the conversations. He’s on top of DC now. He’s doing his thing. I’m trying to grind along in my processing. But, I’m always open-minded too and I’ve expressed that to him.”
DC Comics is launching a new ‘Absolute Universe’ in October 2024. This new line will feature reimagined versions of classic characters like Batman, Superman, and Wonder Woman. The story starts with the ‘DC All In Special’ #1 on October 2, which introduces the new universe and its versions of DC’s iconic heroes.
