Deadline reports that there’s currently a deal in the works to adapt Rob Liefeld’s ‘Avengelyne’ into a movie. Olivia Wilde signed on to direct the film about the fallen angel.
Margot Robbie and her husband Tom Ackerley’s production company, LuckyChap, will produce the project. Although there were rumors about Robbie starring in ‘Avengelyne,’ her team denied them all.
Robbie And Wilde’s Latest Works
Robbie’s company recently produced the 2023 hit ‘Barbie.’ The fantasy comedy film was a major box office success with $1.4 billion at the box office. It also secured eight Oscar nominations at this year’s ceremony.
Olivia Wilde’s last directorial work came out in 2022. ‘Don’t Worry Darling’ was an erotic psychological thriller about a 1950s housewife. Wilde debuted as a director with 2019’s ‘Booksmart.’
Rob Liefeld’s Fallen Angel
The ‘Deadpool’ writer created ‘Avengelyne’ in the ‘90s. The comic book’s main character was once Heaven’s greatest warrior but God banished for being tricked into questioning his love for humans.
The heroine started serving humans on Earth by using her angelic strength and blood that can be used as a weapon through its miracles. Liefeld once described her by writing:
“Avengelyne resonated so powerfully with the audience because her story of redemption is one that is so relatable. A fallen angel, sentenced to redeem herself by serving humanity, Earth is a foreign environment to her, she must adapt in order to save herself as well as mankind. Her dilemma provides humor amidst the larger plot engine driving her journey.”
A big A-list writer is in talks to adapt the comic book, according to Deadline.
