‘The Wedding Date’ star Debra Messing posted a statement as an image regarding the ‘Black Lives Matter’ movement and addressed the ‘All Lives Matter’ folks.
The actress, who received numerous Golden Globe nominations, expressed her thoughts through the image as follows:
“(…) Have you ever seen someone counter a “breast cancer” post with “what about colon cancer”?
But for some reason, if someone says “black lives matter” it turns into all-inclusive “all lives matter“
It’s not an either/or proclamation. When there is a crisis we have always rallied around that particular group. It doesn’t discredit or diminish any other group it just brings awareness and support to the group that needs attention.”
However, this post sparked a debate about the name/title of the movement, among followers.
While some of them agreed with her, some of them did not:
“By saying black lives matter is keeping a differential between white people versus black people. If that is preferred then it should 100% be black lives matter, no question. But if the movement is to ignore skin color moving forward and that all humans are equal – then it should be all lives matter” said, Karen Mitchell.
“I believe it was Beyoncé who responded to the ‘all lives matter’ comment with ‘yes, all lives do matter but right now we’re focusing on BLACK LIVES’ and ever so classy went on with what she had to say. That has become my response since. ‘Yes all lives matter but right now let’s talk about BLACK LIVES’” wrote, Randy.
“If you have friends who are still saying ‘all lives matter,’ they shouldn’t be your friends anymore. They know exactly what they are saying” added Ernest.
It seems that the image shared by many celebrities in addition to Debra Messing will cause more and more debates.
