Denzel Washington and his wife, Pauletta Pearson, discussed potential movie sequels from the actor’s catalog during the U.S. premiere of ‘Gladiator II.’
Washington shared with Entertainment Weekly: “My wife always talks about ‘Man on Fire,’ so that might’ve been interesting. I don’t know, a sequel, if I was gonna do one.”
When his wife replied, “It would have to be a prequel, I think,” he said, “But ‘Man on Fire’ would be the one.” “Well, ‘Safe House,’ too, though,” Pauletta added.
‘Man on Fire’ premiered in April 2004, opening at number one at the box office with $22.7 million. The film’s total earnings reached $130.3 million, and it now holds a 7.7 rating on IMDb.
The film follows a former CIA officer and bodyguard (Washington), who struggles with alcohol addiction, as he seeks revenge after a nine-year-old girl he was protecting is kidnapped in Mexico City.
‘Safe House,’ on the other hand, debuted in February 2012, earning $40.2 million during its first weekend and finishing with $208.1 million worldwide. The movie, rated 6.7 on IMDb, told the story of a young CIA officer (Ryan Reynolds) investigating a veteran operative (Washington) suspected of betrayal.
Washington recently returned to screen in Ridley Scott’s sequel, ‘Gladiator II,’ as a rich former slave plotting to take control of Rome. The movie premiered in theaters on November 22.
