The Prequel Takes Place 15 Years Before The Original
‘Dexter: Original Sin’ takes place in 1991 and follows Dexter as he changes from a student to a serial killer. He learns to control his dark urges with the help of his father and follows a code to eliminate people who deserve it while avoiding law enforcement. Dexter also starts a forensics internship at the Miami Metro Police Department.
The original ‘Dexter’ series aired for eight seasons on Showtime from 2006 to 2013. It came back in 2021 with a sequel series called ‘Dexter: New Blood.’ A second season of ‘Dexter: New Blood’ is reportedly axed. The prequel and sequel series are part of Paramount’s strategy to build franchises around their popular shows.
Production on ‘Dexter: Original Sin’ is supervised by Gary Levine, Urooj Sharif, and Tara Power for Showtime Studios. The 10-episode prequel series was first announced in February 2023.
