Did DC Quietly Update Superman’s Suit? It Seems There Is A Sneaky Change

The new ‘Superman’ actor is David Corenswet.

It looks like there’s a subtle change in Superman’s suit.

“The SUPERMAN suit in the new poster appears different from the one in the set pictures!” a page named DC Update recently posted. “The texture of the suit also seems different, though that might be due to the low quality of the set photos. Notably, the border around the ‘S’ symbol is red in the poster but yellow in the set pictures.”

While James Gunn was filming ‘Superman,’ set photos leaked showing the new Man of Steel costume, which includes Superman’s classic red trunks. Gunn also shared the first photo of Corenswet in the full ‘Superman’ costume on Threads in May. Zack Snyder removed the trunks during Henry Cavill’s time as Superman, but now they’re back with new actor David Corenswet.

Snyder reacted to the suit on X, writing, “Who thought this was the best option for a First Look? Really, I’m not joking, speaking solely from the layout perspective, the pose (pulling his boot on) making the suit chest and arms look bulky and rubbery. BTW are those Trunks we’re returning to, I’m asking for a friend?”

Earlier this year, Gunn said he didn’t want the red trunks for a long time. However, after Corenswet supported the idea of including them, Gunn decided to add them back to the costume.

The director stated, “We were trying on all these different versions, and we screened tested with trunks and no trunks. And one of the things David said is that Superman wants kids to not be afraid of him. He’s an alien. He’s got these incredible powers.”

“He shoots beams out of his eyes…He’s incredibly powerful and could be considered scary. He wants people to like him. He wants to be a symbol of hope and positivity. So he dresses like a professional wrestler. He dresses in a way that makes people unafraid of him, that shows that hope and shows that positivity. And that really clicked in for me,” Gunn added.

He concluded, “I think trying to pretend that Superman’s costume doesn’t have some frivolity to it at its base, trying to make it look serious, is silly because he is a superhero. He’s the first one, brightly colored and that’s who he is.”

Gunn’s ‘Superman’ will hit theaters on July 11, 2025, via Warner Bros.
