Diego Luna On ‘Andor’ Season 2, ‘We Are Finishing This’

This final season will wrap up the story and is set to finish shooting soon.

During a conversation with Variety on the Emmys Red Carpet, Diego Luna, the star of the Disney+ series ‘Andor,’ shared the work on the show’s second season is almost finished.

Asked if he’ll be a part of the Star Wars family or if there are any other new stories to be told, Luna responded:

“I don’t think so, no. I’ll be part of it because I’ll always be part of that family, but no. I mean, the good thing about ‘Andor’ is that we know it has an ending, and it’s nice to work knowing there’s an ending — you can aim for something. And we’re getting there. I have a few days to shoot because of the strike.”

Expressing his eagerness to conclude filming ‘Andor,’ Luna then revealed how many days of shooting remain:

“I have seven days. So, I’m going tomorrow, I’m flying back to London, and we’re finishing this, yeah. In the first season, we shot under very, very hard circumstances: the pandemic, and now the strikes this time. So, the party is going to be worth it.”

Issues Surrounding ‘Andor’s Production

‘Andor’s first season, which premiered on September 21, 2022, was filmed during the COVID-19 pandemic. The upcoming second season has faced its share of hurdles as well, including disruptions caused by the 2023 Hollywood labor disputes and the Writers Guild of America strike.

Despite these setbacks, it seems the second season is closer than it appears.

The second season of ‘Andor’ is expected to be the finale of the story, leading directly into the events of ‘Rogue One.’ Although it was planned for a longer run, the series was later restructured to end with the second season due to its expansive scale and logistical challenges.

Filming for the second season, comprising 12 episodes, began on November 21, 2022. It will also bring the story a year closer to ‘Rogue One’ with each block of three episodes. Luna, reprising his role as Cassian Andor from ‘Rogue One: A Star Wars Story,’ also serves as an executive producer of the series.

While the second season was expected to be released in August 2024, production delays have led to speculations of a possible release in 2025. In addition to his work on ‘Andor,’ Luna is also involved in an upcoming project, the TV mini-series ‘La Máquina,‘ where he will star as Andy.
