Disney Swaps ‘Star Wars’ For ‘Ice Age 6’: It’s Completely Off-Calendar

‘Star Wars’ 2026 holiday movie is not ready. Disney is filling its place with ‘Ice Age 6.’

The ‘Star Wars’ holiday movie originally slated for December 18, 2026, is not ready, and Disney has replaced it with ‘Ice Age 6’.

Disney has removed the second ‘Star Wars’ movie, dated December 18, 2026, from the calendar. It remains unclear whether this decision is related to the ongoing adventures of Daisy Ridley’s Rey Skywalker. In its place, ‘Ice Age 6’ was announced during Brazil’s D23 Expo.

As Deadline first reported, Simon Kinberg is currently developing a new trilogy of ‘Star Wars’ movies, which he will produce alongside Lucasfilm chief Kathleen Kennedy. This trilogy is expected to comprise Episodes 10–12 of The Skywalker Saga, which began with George Lucas’ original 1977 film. Kinberg’s project is in development alongside other ‘Star Wars’ projects from James Mangold, Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy, Taika Waititi, and Donald Glover.

There’s already a ‘Star Wars’ movie in 2026 — that’s The Mandalorian & Grogu on May 22. Additionally, a ‘Star Wars’ movie is still scheduled for December 17, 2027.

Original ‘Ice Age’ cast members Ray Romano, John Leguizamo, Queen Latifah, Denis Leary and Simon Pegg are returning for the sixquel. The first five ‘Ice Age’ movies have grossed over $3.2 billion worldwide combined.

Under Disney’s leadership, the ‘Star Wars’ franchise achieved its highest box office success with 2015’s ‘Star Wars: The Force Awakens’. That movie remains the highest-grossing film at the domestic box office, earning $936.6 million, and ranks fifth on the all-time global box office chart with $2.07 billion.
