In a new interview with Comicbook.com, Dolph Lundgren revealed what it would take for him to reprise his role as He-Man.
Lundgren, who recently revisited his Drago role in ‘Creed II,’ sparked curiosity about his willingness to return to other roles. While talking about his new film ‘Wanted Man,’ he addressed the possibility of once again becoming the He-Man:
“[An] Older He-Man? I don’t know. As long as… my costume can be a little more substantial. It was about the size of a stamp in those days. I think I’d have to add a few layers of costume.”
This was a humorous remark, as the 1987 ‘Masters of the Universe’ film marked Lundgren’s heaviest role at 248 pounds.
Lundgren’s return as He-Man, however, appears remote. As per Comicbook.com, the actor showed a greater eagerness to revisit his 1989 role as The Punisher.
Latest Updates About ‘Masters of the Universe’ Movie
This update comes amidst news that Amazon/MGM is planning a new live-action ‘Masters of the Universe’ movie. The project is rumored to be directed by Adam and Aaron Nee of ‘The Lost City’ fame. The movie’s storyline follows young Prince Adam on his quest to become He-Man to protect his kingdom and loved ones.
Over the years, the film’s development saw various stars attached, including Kellan Lutz and Noah Centineo, with Kyle Allen being the most recent name linked to the role of He-Man.
DreamWorks Animation currently holds the rights for ‘Masters of the Universe’ films. While Mattel, the owner of the original toy line, has permission to shop film adaptations through 2026, discussions are underway to extend this arrangement, considering the potential issues surrounding any sequels or spin-offs.
Amazon’s MGM version seeks a theatrical release. This contrasts with Netflix’s earlier approach, which was less interested in a wide theater distribution.
In light of these developments, Lundgren’s current focus remains on his other projects. His upcoming releases include ‘Hellfire,’ a ‘The Witcher Rats’ spinoff, ‘Malevolence,’ a rumored appearance in ‘Drago,’ and ‘Wanted Man,‘ which is set to be released digitally on January 19th, 2024.
Meanwhile, the animated TV series ‘Masters of the Universe: Revolution’ is coming to Netflix on January 25, 2024, where Chris Wood will voice He-Man. You can watch the trailer below.
